You are here
1. Practice your mad dash.
We all know what the mad dash feels like when seating is first-come, first-served, so get in line early and find that prime spot. Show up before 3pm and you might even stand a chance of getting a ticket upgrade.
2. Check out a toilet that’s way cooler than a porta potty
Skip the lines and go straight to the WaterAid tent in pen 6 where you can experience a Loo with a View! Yup, it is a (nonfunctioning!) “porta potty” of sorts where you can experience what it would be like to take a dump in plain view of thousands of your fellow festival goers. It’s a reality faced by 1 billion people worldwide who are forced to practice open defecation—something that puts women and girls at serious risk of attack, harassment and even rape. (Did I mention this is not a functioning toilet? You might have to check out the porta potties after all, but still…check it out!)
3. Selfie your heart out
Remember that see-through potty we were just telling you about? Yeah. You’re going to want to take a selfie there. Hashtag #GlobalGoals, #GiveAShit #BrightFutures
4. Play ‘I spy the celebrity’
Ending extreme poverty is totally achievable, but it’s not for the weak or weary. The Global Citizen Festival promises to be a historic gathering of world leaders, prominent activists, talented artists and passionate change makers all committed to ending extreme poverty by 2030. With names like Pearl Jam, Beyoncé, Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Usher, Malala Yousafzai, Leonardo DiCaprio, Bono, Ban Ki-moon, Bill and Melinda Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Unilever, H&M Conscious Foundation, UNICEF and WaterAid, you’d better hope your celeb-spotting eagle eyes are ready.
5. Do you wash your hands? Do you brush your teeth? Do you shower?
Hygiene is important to all of us, especially when we’re smashed up against each other trying to get just 3 precious inches closer to that stage, dang it. Find WaterAid staff to sign the petition that asks world leaders to include hygiene in the new Global Goals. It’s a no-brainer way to make a difference in the lives of millions of kids, all while jamming out to Beyoncé!
6. Get down and dirty
Summon your inner child by breaking out the finger paints, all in the name of making handwashing available to everyone. Come on, you know you want to...
7. Bring tissues
If Beyoncé does not make any of your friends cry and shout then Ed Sheeran, Coldplay or Pearl Jam might do the job. Global Citizen Festival has one kick-ass lineup, made only more tear-worthy by knowing that you can make a real difference in the lives of people around the world by taking action to end extreme poverty. You’ve been warned.
8. Be inspired by one of the world’s most courageous 18 year olds…Malala Yousafzai!
Seriously, don't ever leave a festival without checking for your phone, keys, and wallet. Leave everything else at home!
10. AND of course, HAVE FUN!
You are surrounded by global citizens, global leaders and amazing music. It’s time to change the world, my friends, and it’s happening here.
