Workplace giving campaign

Workplace giving campaigns and other employee fundraising activities are great opportunities to motivate staff and increase morale, satisfaction and retention.

Employees often become advocates for our work after undertaking fundraising activities and learning about the effectiveness of WaterAid’s approach.

Companies with multiple offices can establish a regional/national/international campaign that is undertaken locally at each facility.

The campaign can be run as a competition, with the office raising the largest contribution winning a special company prize, like a catered lunch for the staff, along with company-wide recognition.

As an added incentive, the company can offer to match – on a one-to-one or two-to-one basis – all employee contributions during the campaign.

See below for two examples of workplace giving campaigns benefiting WaterAid.

Arup

In April 2006, to mark its 60th anniversary, Arup launched the Arup Cause which has given its worldwide employees many opportunities to engage with WaterAid in different ways.  As part of Arup Americas’ commitment to WaterAid, a one-year employee giving campaign was launched  that encouraged employee contributions by raising awareness and motivating Arup staff about water and sanitation issues.

TestAmerica

In July 2008, TestAmerica employees at nine locations across the United States organized fundraising events including raffles, bake sales and auctions of promises.  Fundraising for a common cause is a good way of uniting employees working in different branches of a national company.

WaterAid in Nigeria

Although rich in natural resources, Nigeria is a country where many live in extreme poverty.  Less than half the population has access to safe water or sanitation.  WaterAid works there to help the most vulnerable communities gain access to these vital services.
