Events in your community
Local community fundraising events such as walkathons, swimathons, cycling events and benefit concert are great ways of bringing friends and family together to have fun while supporting our core mission – providing poor and vulnerable Africans and Asians with water and sanitation.
Why not form a committee to organize the event? The committee should get together to brainstorm ideas, set a fundraising target and work out a detailed plan for the event. Allocating roles such as treasurer, promotion coordinator and people responsible for setting up and clearing away will spread the workload and make your event run more smoothly.
There are hundreds of different events your local community could organize. Here are a few ideas based on the successful experience of our supporters:
Walkathon
Create a
Go with the flow walkathon by walking along any body of water, moving or not. This is an all ability event, strollers and wheelchairs are welcome! Fire up your youth group to get active and raise some money. Get all your friends to take part and make it a social event. Invite your whole family along from the youngest to the oldest.
Swimathon
Stick with the watery theme and raise money for WaterAid by organizing a swimathon at your local pool. Include race events and even a diving competition to make it an exciting event and charge a small fee to spectators.
Cycling events
Whether a long-distance experienced cyclist or a casual weekend rider, why not take on a cycling challenge and raise some vital funds for WaterAid America in the process?
Whether you are sponsored to cycle across the United States or organize an afternoon's race, you'll know that every mile you cover is helping us move toward our vision of a world where everyone has access to clean water, effective sanitation. Have fun, get fit and make a difference!
Benefit concerts
You can book musicians, comedians, or other performers to stage a benefit concert, show or gala to raise awareness and funds for WaterAid. You can boost your proceeds by getting the event sponsored by local businesses, organizing a raffle and selling refreshments.
