The Club, which has been in existence since 1950, has contributed to many worthwhile projects locally, but has had limited involvement internationally.

In 2007, the members set a goal to implement some international projects, in an effort to improve the lives of women and children globally.

The "Service" Committee researched a number of potential projects. The Committee had a sub-committee that specifically researched international projects. That committee then made a recommendation to the Club’s 60 members. The members decided that WaterAid would be one of the international projects for the year.

In order to raise awareness about the fundraising project, they highlighted the project in their monthly newsletter. In addition, they promoted the project in local newspapers.

Funds were raised in a variety of ways, including through their own community thrift shop called the Nellie G Allen Curiosity Shop.

We felt that the issue of clean water and sanitation in developing countries was so important that we wanted to contribute $3,500 to WaterAid, in hopes of affecting over 100 individuals.
