A new edition of the UNC Water and Health Conference in Chapel Hill, North Carolina will take place throughout October 10-14 and will bring together more than 500 practitioners, researchers, policymakers and students to share and learn about the latest developments in the WASH (water, sanitation, hygiene) and health nexus.

“Where Science Meets Policy” offers a stimulating platform for networking, where you might run into representatives from the World Health Organization or the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation while tasting fried chicken or biscuits and gravy, specialties of US southern cuisine.

With more than four years participating in a row, WaterAid has become one of the leading international NGOs present at this prestigious event. Our delegation this year is a reflection of our global scope, with colleagues participating in more than ten side events, highlighting WaterAid’s expertise in delivering services, making change happen and generating support. We will co-convene sessions with more than twenty organizations, including the World Bank Water and Sanitation Program, the World Health Organization and The University of Leeds to mention just a few.

WaterAid’s delegation will also have the honor of accompanying Dr. Senendra Raj Upreti, Secretary of Health at the Ministry of Health and Population of Nepal. Dr. Upreti will be part of the side event on WASH and the impact of vaccination organized by WaterAid, the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, SHARE, and UNICEF. Our very own Clare Battle will be in the spotlight, sharing a plenary panel on the role of government leadership in optimizing development partner support. Furthermore, the Agenda for Change will also take center stage with a side event on the story of systems building alongside the International Rescue Committee, the Osprey Foundation and Water for People. These examples emphasize our thought leadership and innovation at one of the most renowned WASH conferences in North America.
